At AKT II, culture isn’t an add-on – it’s the foundation of how we work. We’re proud to be the first major British structural engineering firm to be certified as a B Corporation, reflecting our commitment to balancing people, product and profit. Being foundation-owned means we reinvest directly into our people, our research, and our shared future.
Our team spans over 50 cultural backgrounds, with a median age of just 33.5 – well below the industry average. This diversity shapes our creativity, enriches our knowledge, and makes our workplace feel dynamic, inclusive and forward-looking.
We sit together in an open, door-free environment, where everyone is approachable and every voice counts. Ideas flow freely, hierarchy is flat, and collaboration defines our design culture.
We believe work should be rewarding inside and outside the studio. From company-funded sports and social clubs to regular team nights-out, we make time to connect as people. Twice a year our entire practice gathers for Office Discussions – large company-wide events that combine open updates with time to celebrate together. And of course, our Tidy Fridays, summer and Christmas parties are legendary fixtures in the calendar.
We believe success starts with people. By investing in our staff, we enable them to deliver exceptional projects, which in turn generate the profit that sustains and grows our practice. This cycle defines our culture: we foster professional growth, inclusivity, innovation, and a commitment to the planet. For us, culture is not static – it continually evolves through dialogue, shared experiences, and a belief that together we can make a difference for our colleagues, our clients, and the wider world.
