The position.

Responsible for Civil Engineering design of projects, from inception to completion in commercial, health, retail, industrial, education and other sectors. Current projects are based in the UK and Internationally. The role requires producing the detailed design to meet with design and construction programmes, liaising with other disciplines and ensuring the co-ordination of design and detailing work appropriate to the project. Reporting to Associate/Associate Director, depending upon the project and the individual.

The role and responsibilities.

As a Senior Design Engineer the responsibilities shall include, but shall not be limited to the following:

Lead the design and delivery of highway schemes, including new roads, junction improvements, roundabouts, maintenance, and active travel projects.
Prepare, review, and approve detailed highway designs, drawings, calculations, and specifications, including roundabout geometry, capacity, visibility, and safety considerations.
Demonstrate the ability to deliver and manage Section 38 and Section 278 agreements, including technical approvals, audits, and liaison with highway authorities.
Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and guidance (e.g. DMRB, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, local highway authority requirements).
Oversee feasibility studies, preliminary designs, and detailed design stages through to construction and adoption.
Manage technical approvals, design change control, and responses to authority comments.

Required skills.

Sound knowledge of civil engineering design in highways.
Experience in other areas such as traffic assessment and geotechnics would also be beneficial.
Computer literate with knowledge of design and analysis programmes, in particular MicroDrainage and Civils 3D AutoCAD/MicroStation knowledge would be beneficial.
Understanding of the CDM Regulations and designers responsibilities.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Qualifications and experience.

A good degree in Engineering.
Experience, competency and flexibility to rise to challenging situations and take on responsibility appropriate to their capability.
Highly experienced in the area of civil engineering.
