Sberbank Technopark

Located outside Moscow, the new Sberbank Technopark will provide a 7-storey structure of two linked buildings housing over 11,000 people. We worked with Zaha Hadid Architects on the unique design set to maximise the wellbeing, creativity and productivity of its users.

The structure contains large-span floors and generous floor-to-ceiling heights that allow flexibility to the interior layout, as well as ample daylight into the deep floor plates. Part of the ‘warehouse’ aesthetic is the exposed structure and services, leading to the design of floor grids that are both efficient and elegant in a modular, hexagonal arrangement.

The 7-storey superstructure is a steel frame with concrete floors. Stability is provided by circular reinforced concrete cores and a hexagonal grid for the primary floor trusses and column arrangement. Key to the design is the use of tree-like columns that make up the primary vertical load-bearing structure, their branches acting to reduce the large floor spans, which are typically around 23 m. These allow free-form floor slab edges, differing from floor to floor, to cantilever along the internal atria and winter gardens.

The development is split by a main boulevard, creating two distinct plots. These two buildings are connected at every floor by five pedestrian link bridges spanning 42 m, three of which being single-storey and two multi-storey.

At the heart of the larger building is a vast atrium, serving as the main entrance to the development, covered by a long-span roof spanning onto a wide tree-shaped structure.

Across the building there are various different cases of façade-structure interfaces. These are typically hung from the slab of the level above, creating an integrated structural façade.
